With Nature's Classroom around the corner, 5th grade students have been learning about stars and how to use a star map to locate stars in the night sky. This week students in 5Me experienced the StarLab (5Mc will do this next Friday) as a sneak preview to what they will observe in the very dark night sky of Connecticut.
Here's an example of a star map. The students received a slightly different version at school. Ask you child about the proper way to hold a star map!
4th graders have begun talking about matter (anything made of atoms, that has mass and takes up space). This week we focused on the difference between mass and weight. If you tell you 4th grader that you want to lose some weight, they might just tell you to go to the moon!
Today we began our Astronomy unit with the study of the sun. Ask you student about some of the fun facts that we spoke about.
It was great to see 3K today! Everyone received their new science notebooks. Please be sure to read over the expectations section with your child and send it back into school. We look forward to an exciting year!
Baby pigeons can be hard to find, but Serena in 3M found that one is living underneath her air conditioner. Pigeons like to roost in areas that are protected from wind and rain, similar to the rock ledges they would choose in nature. Today she brought a photo to share her story.
