6th grade students used a dichotomous key to classify organisms based on their characteristics. Ask your student about what organisms they classified.
Second grade students kicked off the new year with a sound walk. Students walked through the halls of HCES fine tuning their hearing, taking note of all the sounds that surround us each day. This is in preparation for the upcoming unit on sound energy. At the end of the unit, each second grader will create and build their own musical instrument from found items. So start saving interesting found items (coffee cans, corks, boxes, chopsticks, etc)!
Fourth grade students began their study of matter, classifying different objects around the room as solid, liquid and/or gas. This unit will help lay the ground work for our study of chemistry and ultimately, The Periodic Table of Elements.
Alien classification is getting wrapped up before the winter break! Ask your student how his or her classification system works.
