Yesterday students in 5Me dissected chicken wings observing specifically the muslces, tendons, joints, ligaments and bones. Students also took him to compare the chicken wing anatomy to that of a human. Here are some photos and a short video from the exciting experience.

This week, 6th grade students have been keeping logs about one aspect of their daily lives. The observations ranged from how much food a cat eats, to classmates' sleeve length compared to temperature, to the goings-on at East River Park. Students then created hypotheses about why the things they observed are the way they are. For homework, students were challenged to brainstorm what other information they would want/need to test their hypotheses.

The 5th grade students have been learning about the different types of muscle in the human body. This week we focused on skeletal muscle. Ask your student to tell you how they used everyday materials to model skeletal muscle tissue.

The 6th graders just finished up a unit on scientific classification, so I was so happy to stumble upon this article about a new fly species.
